Another raid across the Scottish border
An early start today saw myself and Mark crossing the Scottish border at first light, a light covering of snow and a thick frost greeted us as we precariously launched from the icy slip and headed of to explore the rugged terrain
The mission was to get some action using diving plugs and soft plastics and it didn't take long until my trolled lure was savagely taken and after an awesome scrap I had a good Pollack at the side of the yak
After releasing this I was straight into plenty more Pollack along with Mark bagging a few too
Hectic sport for a near freezing January morning I then hooked into another fish that took off like a rocket and was pleasantly surprised when a nice Coalfish of around 2lb appeared
Then a few more smaller ones
We then headed around the point where the conditions were interesting at times with the swells slamming the cliffs at times and pouring over the many islands I trolled most of the way and not a touch in the exciting water quite relieved at some points that I didn't have an angry fish to deal with whilst keeping an eye on the odd rogue swell coming over the rock islands a stunning and exhilarating stretch of rugged coastline could have quite happily stowed the rods and just played
With the fish not playing in the white water we headed back around and switched to soft plastics picking up plenty of Pollack and a few Cod
Stunning place to fish and paddle
A most enjoyable session

A trip North of the border 03/01/2015
Had an easy launch out of the Harbour in near freezing conditions and headed towards the rocky outcrops 60ft plus of water under the rock edges in places so didn't have much confidence on getting any enquiries on my trolled plug
However had only got around 200yds when the rod wrapped around and a decent fish on couldn't believe it after a short hard fight with some decent dives the hook pulled without even ID'ing it gutted
No more action on the plugs but had a string of 4 nice Coalies on some mini shrimps
We had a short pit stop on a remote patch of pebbles to stretch our legs when I found a fine Whales tooth an interesting find
I changed tactics after this and fished a small savage sandeel amongst the kelp some 50ft down and was straight into a fine Codling around 4-5lb a great fight on the light tackle
I lost another 2 good fish in quick succession snapping the fine braid on the rocks but an excellent 1st trip of the year in stunning scenery and a few fish however the highlight was being joined briefly by a pod of around 15 Dolphins breaching very close by but sadly no pics of these
Plenty of other wildlife about too a place I will definately be returning to especially with the free dive gear
